IN THE HOUSE FESTIVAL ** Please note that some shows take place in backyards, so please dress appropriately. If it looks like it will rain, we will try our very best to move it indoors or tarp the yard. There are NO guarantees though. The finale is outdoors due to the 20 foot aerial tower for the circus. Thanks for your understanding!

Desiree Mou (Desi Mou):
I come from the town of Lillooet where a simple daily event - like a trip to the Shop & Save - becomes a fantastical story of trial and triumph. Stories are a way of getting inside other people's heads to find out how they think, and how they see life; they're a way of talking about our fears and frailties without talking about our fears and frailties. Currently in my work at the university, I'm curious about story as a way of making learning stick.

The Reincarnation of W. Chapter 1:
This project began in July 2006 and ended when the new Woodward's building was completed in 2009. Although it is centered on the transformation of the Woodward's building, it also studies the changes in the neighborhood caused by the reincarnation of Woodward's. As an immigrant, engineer, artist and long-term resident of Vancouver, I feel compelled by the Woodward's Building as a visual and historical symbol. When I arrived from Hong Kong in 1970, the vivid neon W was the most recognizable of landmarks and a significant navigational one too. I also shopped at Woodward's, buying the clothing and accessories that helped shape my new-found identity in Canada. Coincidentally, in the early 1990s, both Woodward's and I shared a similar transition from commercial ventures to artistic pursuits: Woodward's changed from a department store to an exhibition space for Artropolis, while I left my technical profession as an electrical engineer to focus on photography, film and video.
